Vacation Accrual memo

All,

Several Directors have gotten requests from their PEA employees for approval for credit for past experience on vacation accrual. This was an item that was negotiated in the PEA contract primarily for recruiting for new employees. However, in the interest of equity for current employees, the City negotiated a window of time that current employees could apply for the same consideration.

PEA membership has gotten the word out to their members to make these requests now, however, it is premature. We will discuss with PEA leadership. The PEA membership has just voted, but the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) has not been finalized and is not yet in effect. We are probably one month out with contract signing and two Council readings.

At this point, the City cannot take any formal action until the contract has been approved at Council. In the meantime, Tracey Blees, the City's negotiator, is working on a form that employees would fill out and directors would sign - to approve or not and at what level. We need to work with payroll on specifics, but will get it out early next week.

So, please hold on any requests and feel free to share this email with employees who have made a request.
